Who’s behind the Standish name

In 1988, Alan Standish founded a communications agency in Sherbrooke. At the time, the agency specialized mainly in branding and graphic design and produced a variety of print communication tools for companies in the Eastern Townships. Today, Standish is a 360° creative agency with the expertise to work with organizations of all kinds.

In 2023, Mr. Standish retired after 35 years of creativity! We honour his legacy with the dynamism and passion of the different generations who enhance our team.

Our story

The story of Standish starts with its founder, Alan.

His career began when he chose to study graphic design. At that time, graphic design courses were just beginning. Alan was part of the first cohort of the course given at the Cégep de Sherbrooke.

After graduation, he worked in various printing companies in the region. His knowledge and creativity led to a flourishing career as an art director and associate.

In 1988, Alan Standish made his dream a reality and founded Standish, a communications agency in Sherbrooke. At that time, Standish specialized in branding and graphic design and produced various printed communication tools for businesses in the Eastern Townships.

A few years later, the agency started offering web design services. However, the web was just starting, so the service was not very popular and was offered as a bonus for design clients. As Standish expanded its horizons, a name change was necessary: Standish Design became Standish Communications.

Over time, as the digital world grew and expanded, new services were added: first video production in 2013, then digital marketing in 2017. Today, Standish is a 360 creative agency with local, national, and international clients.

The Standish Advantage

Since its beginning, Standish has had a distinct competitive advantage: its bilingualism. This allows the agency to work with many English-speaking clients in the region, but also to reach out to clients in Montréal, the rest of Canada, and the United States.

Since the founding of the agency, major needs have been felt by companies in the industrial field. However, they did not have the necessary resources to meet them. Standish seized this opportunity to make itself known to companies in the region. Over the years, the agency’s expertise has expanded to include tourism, institutions, sports, food, and much more, both in B2B and B2C!

Since 1988, many agencies have been created. However, Standish is the only agency in Sherbrooke that can claim to have over 30 years of experience. Our secret? We know how to follow the current and adapt. This is without a doubt our greatest strength. It’s also what allows us to continuously offer innovative solutions that contribute to the growth of businesses. As Alan always says, there must be something we’re doing well!
